Competitive Photography: Let’s See What We Can Learn
Whelp, a few of us decided to do a little experiment. Along the way, we discovered that there is a lot more to learn about what makes a strong photograph — and an effective title — for a juried exhibit or competition.
If you’re interested in learning more with us, the Bloomington Photography Board has approved exploring Competitive Photography Skills as a new focus group. This will be a cooperative, collective effort: we’ll learn together, share what we discover, and help each other improve.
Our first meeting will be Tuesday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. Calvin Poole and Becca Cambridge will share how we got to this point and, if time permits, some of the insights and formal feedback we’ve received along the way.
At this first meeting, we’d like to explore a few key questions:
Is there enough interest to form the group?
Would members be interested in competing together as a club against other photography clubs?
Would we like to take advantage of our Photography Society of America (PSA) involvement to obtain feedback on our work?
Would there be interest in bringing in outside speakers focused on competitive photography skills?
No experience in competition is required. If you’re curious about what makes a photograph stand out to a judge — and want to learn with other photographers — come join us!
