Program: Your iPhone as a Creative Tool;
At Home and Around the World

We are planning to conduct our monthly Bloomington Photography Club Meeting as a hybrid meeting. We will be meeting at 7:00 pm in person in the Chapel Room of the Bell Trace Retirement Community, 800 Bell Trace Court, Bloomington, IN. The Chapel Room is in the main building at Bell Trace. From the main entrance take the elevator to the basement; the room is about 30 feet straight ahead. It is next to the Commons Room where we have our holiday party. The meeting is open to all members and non-members.

Photographer and educator Rad Drew returns to the Bloomington Photography Club after presenting to the group a number of years ago. He has remained in touch with several club members and is pleased to have the opportunity to return and share his photographic journey, particularly as it pertains to his love of the iPhone.

Rad will share iPhone (and maybe some Fuji photos too!) from travels to Cuba, Tuscany, the South of France, United Arab Emirates, Oman, and destinations throughout the United States including Hawaii, Cape Cod, and the Palouse. He’ll discuss the evolution and capabilities of the iPhone camera and demonstrate some of the creative possibilities for creating and processing images on today's iPhone whether photographing in distant lands, or in our own backyard.

About Rad Drew

Teacher, photographer, speaker, and tour leader Rad A. Drew creates with the iPhone, mirrorless, and infrared cameras. He is especially recognized for his expertise in mobile photography, developed over more than 16 years since purchasing his first iPhone — an iPhone 4 — in 2010.

Rad teaches photography workshops and leads photographic tours throughout the United States and internationally. He is a frequent presenter for photography conferences, educational organizations, and camera clubs around the world, and is the creator of the popular How I Did It!™ webinar and presentation series.

His creative images have received international recognition and have been exhibited at venues including SOHO Gallery and SOHO Arthouse in New York City, the L.A. Mobile Arts Festival, and Obscura Gallery in Melbourne, Australia. He was listed in the Photographic Society of America’s Who’s Who in Photography in 2018, and his work has appeared on multiple PSA Journal covers.

Rad is a former associate editor for the late Indianapolis photographer Kevin Raber’s PhotoPXL.com and writes about photography, mobile image-making, apps, and creative techniques for PSA Journal, The Royal Photographic Society, TheAppWhisperer, and the online photographer’s resource Luminous Landscape. BPC Monthly Club Meeting

This meeting is probably everyone’s most favorite meeting of the year. Each focus group leader will create a slide show or movie of photos that their focus group members have selected from their archives. This is a great opportunity for members to share their photos with everyone in the club.

Based in West Lafayette, Jen Ritchie is a wildlife photographer, specializing in the Mountain West and Indiana. Her images from Wyoming, Colorado, Alaska, and Banff showcase the creatures, big and small, that make our wild spaces so special. She is also the host of the Wildlife Conversations podcast where she interviews wildlife photographers, conservationists, and guides from around the world. Locally, you will find her photographing the Celery Bog Nature Area and Prophetstown State Park plus running her own portrait business. Jen believes a great wildlife photo is more than being perfectly sharp, and she will share her journey to photography and tips to bring magic to our wildlife images.
