BPC Monthly Club Meeting
Guest Speaker: Dave Askins, editor of B Square Bulletin. Topic: Sense of place in local journalism: From backyard teeter totters to the city hall dais.
More than half a decade ago, Dave Askins started The B Square Bulletin to report local government news in Bloomington. But his goal is now to transform The B Square into Bloomington’s full-fledged hometown paper, even if it’s published only online. He thinks his own B Square photos have somewhat dubious technical merit. But Askins believes the images provide a sense of place and proof of presence, reminding readers that the reporting is based on an eye-witness account, not somebody else’s recap.

Program
This month’s BPC monthly meeting will feature 2 or 3 jurors from our 2024 juried exhibit. Our three jurors were Siobhan Norris, Gabe Colman, and Huner Erin. They will present an anonymized image review of some of the images which were not selected for the exhibit. This image review will allow for a group discussion aimed at educating all BPC members.

BPC Monthly Club Meeting
Program: All the BPC Focus Groups will present their best photographic images of 2024.
You may watch a video of this event HERE. Passcode: Cs^3w+q=
This meeting is probably everyone’s most favorite meeting of the year. Each focus group leader will create a slide show or movie of photos that their focus group members have selected from their archives. This is a great opportunity for members to share their photos with everyone in the club.
If you are a focus group leader, please follow the guidelines below:
Limit your presentation to no more than 6 photos from each member.
If you plan to show your presentation via Zoom, please plan to share your screen and present your show from your computer.
If you plan to show your presentation in person at the library, please bring your slide show on a flash drive or other device to the meeting. You may load and run your show using Raouf’s computer.
Your presentation may be as a video or slide show, with or without music.
Our main concern is that we have only one hour and 45 minutes to squeeze in everyone’s photos. So please limit your presentation time to (1) no more than 5 seconds per photo or (2) no more than 15 minutes for your whole presentation, whichever is shorter.
We proudly share these presentations with the public. Please tell all your friends and family that they are most welcome to attend in person or via Zoom. If you need a Zoom link, contact Juliet Frey (jstarkfrey@comcast.net).
